Research
As a research fellow at the Kyoto Arts Center he performed the kabuki role of Tandanyu at the imperial palace in Kyoto. He has studied for a year with Nomura Shiro and Nomura Mansaku, two of Japan's “Living National Treasures” in the traditional forms of Noh and Kyogen. His translation, with Junko Sakaba, of Buaku was the first English language Kyogen play performed at the National Noh Theatre in Tokyo. His main focus in the last several years has been on new plays.

Research
Dr. LaFave’s research explores the relationship between popular culture and constructions of race, gender, and sexuality across the nineteenth- and twentieth-century United States. She employs performance both as a site of study (investigating stage plays, sheet music, dance, museum curation, and more) and a methodology that understands cultural knowledge as relational and emerging from embodied experiences. Her background in Archives and Special Collections offers practical insights into how national narratives are remembered, created, and/or obscured. What stories do we tell, and what do they reveal about us?

Research
Adrienne has danced, choreographed, and performed with several professional modern dance companies since 2009. She has studied a wide variety of dance styles and genres in addition to contemporary modern dance, including ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, musical theater, ballroom, Latin social dance, and swing. In addition to teaching technique classes, she has taught courses in dance history and appreciation, hip hop dance history, composition and choreography, pedagogy, improvisation, and contact improvisation. Adrienne was an athlete and musician before becoming a dancer, which gave her a unique advantage in her dance training and performance career. Because of this background, she believes that all dancers should strive to be athletes and musicians, as well as skilled actors, performers, and technicians within their chosen style or genre.
